I am now faster at triathlon ...

Dangle the Carrot ... A Crossfit Endurance Blog

Swim Training:

Bike Training:

Run Training:

This is an incomplete workout as I was not wearing Vibrams.

For Transition practice I stacked all three tires on top of each other and then unstacked all three tires x2. According to 99.8% of Crossfitters this will make me 35% faster in Transition 1 and 42% faster in Transition 2. True Story.

Thanks for Laughing with me,

Jeff

  1. HA HA HA HA HA! I am sweating more now than during my run at 3:30pm today......OMG Dude this is awesome.

As I texted you I can't believe ESPN carries the CrossFit Championships or whatever they call them (dudes tossing tires is probably a better name) and they can't find one f'n minute out of their busy schedules to carry a marathon or a triathlon......f'n a-holes. Letter to the the President of ESPN coming right up.

    1. I'd imagine Triathlon is difficult and costly to film, unless Lance is racing, of course. Oh, and it might be sort of boring for non-triathletes to watch. Like how the Crossfit games is incredibly boring for us to watch (-:

  2. What I would like to know is.... where are you? and where did you get the tires?

    1. I was at the gym getting ready to swim at the outdoor lap pool. They had these tires lying over in the turf section. Always see trainers out there having people push these things around.

  3. O... M... G.... I know Jon banned the word, but this is truly EPIC! I am sitting here laughing my ass off right now!!

You are looking pretty ripped in those pics! Although your killer tri-top tan lines sort of ruin it :-P

    1. The tri top tan lines are rather unflattering!

  6. Thank you for sharing your IMMT training tips. I am off to go buy some of my own tractor tires now, because you have to be telling the truth - since you BQ and stuff.

Did you drive a mini-van with your cats to this? Just sayin'...

    1. No Shannon, I got some chain, wrapped it around a mini-van bumper and pulled it to this (-:

  7. This is so much better done at an interstate truck stop - running from the long haulers makes you fast!

  8. I was watching the CrossFit games on ESPN this weekend and I thought, you know, these people can lift a lot of weight but they'd get through these events a lot better if they did some aerobic activity too.

  10. Haha, nice one! I've read some of the crossfit people's blogs and articles and they are all addicted to it.

  12. Soooooooooooo, what you are saying is that this is why I suck donkey balls at T2???

I am currently ordering 3 used Combine Tractor tires being shipped to my house by this weekend.

7:30+ T2 times are a thing of the past for me thanks to Mr. Jeff Irvin. Thank you sir.

    1. Stacking tires will make you like a sub-:30 sec transitioner (is that a word?), I know this because some CF guy wearing an Ed Hardy shirt and vibrams told me so.

  13. But did you hit it with a sledgehammer? That's really the kind of thing that makes a difference climbing hills. Excellent.

    1. That is one thing he failed to do and thus why my T2 times will be faster than his. I have an array of sledgehammers. One for sprints, one for Olys, one for HIM and the Macca (get it) of them all for IM.

I'll lend them to you if you would like.

In addition to that I have an anvil that I run around with to help me with swimming. I know you are a fast swimmer but the anvil might help.....let me know.

    2. Beth, no sledgehammer was available so like any good CFer would do I substituted by slamming the one tire with another. Like adapt and overcome and stuff.

Jason, an anvil??? hmmmm ... this has potential.

    1. Ripped? I look like a 10 year old. The good news is I am only one stomach virus away from racing weight!

  16. This would have made a whole lot more sense if those were bike tires.

  20. If the cross fitters have precise percentage improvements like that, they must have done a really scientific study :-). I think stacking heavy tires will make you faster at stacking heavy tires, that is as long as you don't through your back out.

  21. This is why I find myself slowly moving into bike racing - seems less gimmicky. Plus no one ever wears sleeveless bike jerseys. As you know, I have 1-10 things to say about this at any given time.

For the past week or so, there's been this infomercial about something called The Insanity Workout that comes on at 9:00 after the Dan Patrick Show. Though I've got no interest in it, I feel compelled to watch it, like when you drive past a bad car wreck.

  22. Did you rip up your palms pounding out that WOD? Make sure you use a nail file on those callouses :) and hope you hydrated by drinking that koolaid! Good stuff jeff. Peed a little with this post.
