Ten Days ...

In a mere TEN days Kevin and I will be running the Woodlands Marathon and attempting to Qualify for the Boston Marathon in 2013.
Right now I am in full taper and am actually going a little batty. This is good as the garage has been meticulously cleaned and the office is next in line!

The training has gone smooth and I am 100% healthy (knock on wood) despite what the taper madness gods are trying to tell me about my right ankle - get out of my head bitches!

In a weird way this is officially my first stand alone marathon. Now it is not the first time I have done the distance as I have run two 50K's, an Ironman marathon, and paced Annie at the Houston Marathon last month. I ripped off my timing chip at the Houston Marathon so I would not be tempted to run faster, as it was Annie's day to PR, so I did not get an official marathon time.

So really it is my first official marathon but not the first time I will be doing the distance which makes the BQ attempt not all that crazy.

- BQ Time for Jeff is sub-3:10
- BQ Time for Kevin is sub-3:05

Next week I will lay out my pacing plan, finishing time goal, and the training numbers that have gone into the race.

Thanks for Reading,

Jeff

  1. Ripped off your timing chip?! That's like climbing to the top of your towns water tower and not taking a can of spray paint. Why even do it?!

    1. Because I am that type of husband ... major points earned for the upcoming Ironman training - poor Annie ain't going to see me for 6months!

  2. Correction - Jeff's BQ time is sub-3:05. Only old farts BQ at sub-3:10.

And here I am stuck catching up on actual work. How about you come clean my garage next?

    1. It would be too cold in your garage. I would need the world's largest bubble jacket and then I'd be too puffy to even do any cleaning. Be walking around like the Stay Puff Marshmellow man from Ghostbusters!

  4. Go for broke, sub 3:00. I wish you the best for weather and the perfect race. I consider this your first marathon from the road racing angle, a 50k just doesn't count.

    1. What time you planning on coming in? we will probably head over to the Woodlands midmorning to packet pickup and then grab some lunch. then for dinner I know this crappy little pasta place in the parking lot of the Home Depot that has been my go to pre-race restaurant. Going to be a fun weekend!

    2. I am going to leave here around 10am to avoid the Dallas traffic and that should put me there mid-afternoon. I'll have packed a cooler for lunch on the drive so no worries there.

Just shoot me your address again so I can map it out properly. If I am running later than mid-afternoon I will text you and meet you at the Home Depot (send phone # with address too then.....)
