Am I in the Minority?

So I watched American Idol last night and thought it was boring as hell.   J-Lo is not that annoying and I want to have beers with Steven Tyler but overall they are pretty bland as judges, IMO.  And Randy is, well, Randy (dawg).  All the contestant are extremely talented and I'm pulling for either Casey or James but something about these contestants just bore me?  I boldly informed Annie that I am done with Idol this season.  I miss Simon and his creative way of insulting people.

After deciding to ditch the show I talked to a few friends today and they all disagreed with me.  Even my father thinks this is the best season yet and doesn't miss Simon at all.  Facebook and Twitter were even in a good mood about Idol?

Then I heard that the ratings are up 29% over last season?

Am I missing something here?  Is all this training frying my musical sensibilities?  Mark, can you help me out?

How does everyone else feel about Idol so far?  Should we all ditch it?

Jeff

I like Casey, Paul and James.
    that's it.
the rest I skip. thank you TiVO
I do like Steven Tyler a lot. and JLo more then I did Paula that is for sure. I could do without Randy and have Simon there instead. They are all way too nice to the contestants so far!!!

  2. I'm totally digging Steven Tyler, but I'm tuning in to see Casey, he's so freakin' good.

  3. Regina, do you think the judges are too soft? I like them but they seem to be all friendly with the contestants. Stop with all the feel good, fluffy descriptive adjectives already!!!

  4. I'm sick of it and haven't watched in many seasons. It's tired, IMO.

  5. Jeff, I think we'd like idol a lot more if we were 12 year old girls.

...I'll stick with a healthy level of testosterone and hating idol.

  6. I don't watch it, but I think Stephen Tyler adds a lot of credibility to it. A lot of my indie/punk music friends now admit to watching it with their wives, when before they just said their wives watched it.

  7. Maybe if you actually watched it instead of trolling the internet and sending out twitters during the show you would see why the rating are up this year.

  8. I am SO with you. I though the exact same thoughts last night as I had the tv going in the background while I found other things to do because the songs were SO BORING.

Casey and Durbin are definitely my favorites.

  9. I don't think I've ever seen a full episode. Don't plan on starting either.

  10. Thanks for the input on the blogging woes. I already have a bunch of posts in mind!

I would only watch idol highlights of the crazy bad people. For some reason I find the show way too awkward for me to get into.

I just want the show to do well, cuz, uh, maybe FOX owns my ass?

  12. I've never watched an episode. Hard to believe, I know.

  13. Never seen a single episode. Can't stand reality TV at all for that matter. Tried watching Last Comic Standing one season but lost interest after a couple episodes.

  14. I watch Casey and then usually turn it off. That guy is amazing and he will go far. In fact I think it would be better for him if just hooked up with a producer now and got off the show NOW.

  15. Confession: I don't watch Idol. In fact, I've never watched it. Does that make me a loser? A nerd? A weirdo? Ha-ha! Have a great weekend Jeff!!

  17. Haven't seen a single episode, not planning on starting anytime soon. Might be cool if they combined the singing with some American Gladiator type contests.

  18. Two words on why you should watch it

    Pia Toscano!!!!!

After she is done, you can turn it off

  19. Watched a little Idol the first couple seasons, but once they devoted so much time to the humiliating and ultra-bad auditions I was done with it. I get enough negativity at my job on a daily basis to choose to watch more of it on the TV. Maybe it would be worth another look if they've gone back to focusing on the good, but the Idol ship has sailed for me.

  20. I have never watched American Idol so I can't really comment on that. But I do have to say one thing. When I first read your line about J-Lo I thought it said Jel-Lo and I was really laughing about that. Then I read it again and saw that it was my mind playing tricks on me. Must have been subliminal!

  21. I DVR every epispde and can get thru the singing episode in about 20-25 min. It takes me about 1 min to watch the voted off show because I FF to the last minute and watch who got the boot. Its the best of both worlds. DVR has changed my life!

  22. I think the contestants are the most talented, but it's a freaking love fest between the judges and the contestants. BLAH. I've agreed with Randy every time he criticizes someone. :) We'll keep watching because we're suckers!

  23. I'm with you--bring Simon back!

  24. Don't watch it and not planning to watch but the wife does. And the other day I turned around and saw J-Lo and she seriously looked like a clown. How much makeup can one person wear?

  25. I might be the only person in America...have never watched this program!!

  26. I haven't read any of the other comments, but J-Lo is way better than Paula or that other hot judge.

How can you not love Steven Tyler. That guy is just so freaking likeable. I like the guys that sing rock, blues, etc, not the sappy crap.

The women are hot, but borrrrring.

  27. BTW, I'm not saying you don't like Steven Tyler.

  28. I want meaner judges and more Pia please!

  29. I DVR it and zoom through a lot.

The kids are more talented this year for sure... Simon was way more entertaining, but I LOVE Casey & James are my 2 favorite... Paul is good, I like his tone... I LOVE Scotty, that deep voice makes me think of Josh Turner, who I am in love with. That little blonde chick who is in love with Steven Tyler drives me nuts. Pia is really good, but her songs bore me. I like J-lo and ST a lot too, but they are being too nice.
