Something Cool Happened This Morning

Wednesday's are fun training days for me because I usually get to sleep in until at least 5:30am.  Today it was fun for a whole different reason.  The alarm went off and I got right out of bed and tossed on my Brooks and my running shorts and headed for the front door.  As I opened the door and walked outside something was different?  That something was that I was not immediately hit with air that felt like it was emanating out of a blast furnace.  It was, dare I say, comfortable?  Yep, 72 degrees and the humidity was bearable. It wasn't cold and I was still sweating like a pig after about 10 minutes but it was nice.

The workout was a tough one too!  It was the speed interval workout and it had more intervals than ever before.   The entire workout was for 1h 10m and had 12 x 1 minute Zone 5 Sprints with a 3 minute recovery.  The first 4 intervals I was averaging a 5 min/mi pace by the last two intervals my average was down to 6:30 min/mi pace and on interval #11 actually had some vomit come up in my mouth - it was not all that pleasant!  But the workout was awesome and I ended up logging a total of 8.30 miles.

It is amazing what can be accomplished outdoors when you can actual breathe!

Thanks for Reading,

Jeff

  2. That is awesome!! You have been dealing with some crazy hot weather!

What is funny is that those are our "warmer than normal" temps! ha ha. I guess I am pretty spoiled (although, in Jan when you are running in shorts and I look like the stay-puff marshmellow man, I will be jealous).

  3. Once you have taken advantage of the weather can you push it over to the Carolinas?

  6. Luke, Ill see if we can get it shipped your way for the weekend!

Mandy - our winters are pretty freaking awesome. Sometimes we get ice and the entire state freaks the hell out and they cancel schools. I am gonna have to get some gloves and tights for cycling though!

Amanda - BDD has given me a couple of pukies already! This was more of an acidy-type of puke and really only a full on projectile vomit should get that award!!

  7. Ohhhhh - I am so jealous! I'm hoping and wishing that that awesome weather comes my way very very soon. I wore a tshirt this morning thinking maybe today would be the day. No such luck.

Glad you were blessed with some awesome weather! Sounds like you had a great workout, too! Always awesome.

  9. I know what you mean, brother.
I was swimming outside this afternoon and I swear when the wind blew and hit my arms, it felt cool... even though it was high 80s outside.

FYI: I have started to grow a ponytail and I cut up my old steel belted radials to use as running shoes until the calluses have built up on my feet.

I am also started to chant....

  20. Dude, I know exactly what you're on about. Our morning lows were in the 90's for 2 months. That makes 5AM a bad time to be outside. Now the lows are in the 75-range, and I'm loving life. My run pace has improved by at least 1:00/mile with no other changes. Wooo!!!
