Things I Have Been Digging ...

Thanks for all the feedback on the new wheels!  On Sunday morning I am going for a nice long ride and promise to report back on how both the Zipp Front Wheel and the Disk Cover Rear perform.

---------------------------------------

I was just in my office and was looking around at some things I have been liking over the last few weeks and figured I'd snap a few pics and put them up on the blog followed by a little commentary on each item:

This is the newest, "Jack Reacher" novel by Lee Child.  I am only a few chapters in but can already tell it is going to be a good one!  If you like are looking for a good fast-paced page turner with a badass lead character then pick up some of the Reacher books.

This is the beIRONfit training book by Don Finks.  He is an advocate of the time efficient Heart Rate training and has a couple of nice IM Training plans in the books.  A very solid and informative read for the Triathlete with a busy life.

Just picked up this Triathlon book!  It has over 42 Training plans in it for Sprint, Olympic, Half and Full Ironman Distances.  It also has individual plans from "Just Finish" to "Competitive".  I wish I had found this book before my first Tri and will probably use the training plans for my next Half IM.

This is a KONG.  You fill it with Peanut Butter and give it to your dogs.  It provides countless hours of entertainment for the Pugs and they leave me alone.  Parents use TV for the same purpose!

This is "The Stick" and it is AWESOME.  You basically grab it by the handles and rub it up and down your legs while applying pressure.  It works just like a foam roller but you can get to those hard-to-reach places much easier.  Last night I rubbed it on my calves, quads, shins, hammies, neck and back.  This will travel with me to every race from here on out and be used immediately after.

These are Push-Up handles.  Just stick them on the ground and do a push-up.  They let you get deeper which gives you a better workout and also they are very comfortable on your wrists. If you have wrist issues these are for you.

This is a Glock 33 with an added pinkie rest on the magazine.  The BlackBerry is next to it so you can see the tiny size.  It is extremely light and accurate.  I have a Concealed Carry license (I am legal) and have been carrying this with me a lot lately.  It is so small that I barely know it is there but easily accessible if ever needed.  Yes, this is very common in Texas!

This is a CamelBak Hydration System.  When I was in PA my Father gave this to me.  He used to be an avid Bass Fisherman and bought this for himself.  But he recently gave up the sport and had no use for the Camelbak and figured I would like if for my long runs/rides.  I tried it out last week and it is pretty darn cool. Thanks Dad!

That is about it!  There are a ton of blogger Peeps racing this weekend and I wish you all the best of luck.

Thanks for Reading,

Jeff

  3. Pretty neat stuff ya got there...
But that gun, I didn't know carrying a gun around WAS actually a common occurrence in Texas. I thought that was myths and folklore... WEIRD!!!! I guess I'll remain innocently Canadian. :P

  5. Jeff, you know the type of materials I read... is the Lee Child book something in which I would be interested?

  6. I am going to have to try the Reacher books. Isn't the stick good??

Love the Glock. I think I love Texas but I haven't been there for more than a midnight drive through the panhandle. It is common in Maine to have guns easily accessible too. See, I just touched my 9mm. I like the looks of your Glock better. ACTUALLY - you will like this. I worked in a store called Bait, Bolts, and Bullets from when I was 16-20. I used to sell guns & ammo, fishing supplies, and hardware. Not your average working through high school and part of college job, but hey, it was awesome.

  7. Patrick -- For the Reacher movie, I am thinking Gerald Butler (300) or maybe Hugh Jackman. Liam Neeson would be awesome but he might be too old and not big enough.

K - Us Texans carry guns and even keep them in our cars. It is a big part of the reason our violent crime rare is much lower than cities our size (Chicago, NY, LA ..etc). Oh, and home invasions are basically non-existent in these parts. Criminals know if you break into someone's house you are going to get shot! Getting shot seems to be a real deterrent for most folks!

Boomer - You would LOVE the Reacher books. I feel bad I haven't mentioned them to you already! The character is similar to the
Mitch Rapp one, you and I both love.

Mandy, the Stick is just awesome. We just went on a 6 mile run and I used it right after and my legs feel great! Very cool job as a teen. I am by no means a gun freak or anything, but I do practice shooting and preach safety. When we had hurricane IKE come through the area and all the power was out for days and some serious crime was happening it was very reassuring to have a sidearm on the hip!

  8. LOL - I am not a sidearm freak either, just enjoy shooting and like to be sure people are safe when around them - I shoot with dad a few times a year...The job was pretty funny, I used to love the questions I would get in a job interview about it.

  9. Hi Jeff,
Boy, you have a ton of things that you have been digging lately! I am thinking that the Stick looks like something that I might dig:)

  10. Child- a fun author, never have read any of his reacher books, but sounds like I should give it a try. A gun dealer friend of mine is going out of business so I am getting a Glock .22 as a gift. Next is the same you have, but I promised I would learn the 22 first and take all the safety courses. In MS it is easy to get a conceal/carry license, good and bad I guess.

  11. I've heard good things about "beIRONfit," but haven't gotten it yet. Maybe I'll see if the library has it so I can check it out.

Kongs are the best! Even my 95lb. black lab loves those things! :)

  12. I almost fell off my chair when I saw the photo of your glock....my brother in law has one, and I shot it once when I was six months pregnant....funny visual, but I thought it was totally cool.
