P90X Round 2 Day 73: Rest Day

I was looking forward to doing Back and Biceps this afternoon, but I am still feeling some soreness in my foot so I decided to take today as a rest day and push all the exercises back a day. Normally I would push through the pain and just pretend it didn't happen but in the past that sort of thinking has done more harm than good. Today I rest... a little.

What I mean is on the way home from work I picked up my road bike. So I wanted to see how it felt and ended up riding my 5K route - twice! I was a little tired afterwards and had a decent sweat going. The bike rode nice and fast and I really like the feel of it. I was afraid that I would be uncomfortable with the handle bar position of the road bike and I wasn't at all. It took me some time to get used to the brakes and shifting, but after a few minutes I was fine. Overall a good first ride! Here is a picture of the new bike, turn up your volume I added some audio ... CLICK HERE

Hopefully, tomorrow I will be able to jump back into Back & Biceps. This is one of my favorite workouts and I really wanted to blow it up today, but I can do it tomorrow instead. And my foot is feeling much better. Probably going to have to suck it up and get some good running shoe!

Thanks for Reading,

Jeff

  1. Since we are now training for triathlons making changes to the P90X schedule is inevitable.

I clicked your link, but I did not see the bike. It was a music video. I am excited to see your cool new toy!

Your feet will love the new shoes!

  2. OK man...there has to be a fine for linking us to a Rick Astley video. It's not illegal...but it should be. :)

Hey, one thing you might consider before your triathlon...unless you plan on having someone "sag" your ride (support car with supplies etc.)...is practice patching a tire tube without removing the rim from the bike. Flat tires are a reality during any ride and learing how to do that efficiently will save you time.

Like Ash said in a previous post about footwear, befriending a local bike shop, getting to know their mechanics, will help you in the long run. They might invite you on group rides, which will give you experience learning to ride in groups...which is a totally different dynamic to riding alone.

OK...I'm almost over that Rick Astley video...I'm feelin' much better now.

  3. Gentleman -- In honor of April 1st yesterday you have been "Rick Rolled" ... Google that phrase and you will see how funny it is!

Boomer .. I am finding it more difficult to stay with the X schedule because I have become preoccupied with the Tri! I need to refocus and finish out this round and then redo my fitness schedule.

Steve... I bought a repair kit and actually a little bag that fits on my seat that hold a bunch of shit for the bike ... hex keys, wrenches, patch kit, ..etc. I am sure a tire will blow out soon so I am ready to practice!

Also - I order Triathlon shorts online last night ... pretty excited for these things to show up!

  5. ROTFLMAO! Ok, you got me with the April fools thing. Good one!

I know what you mean about the P90X schedule and the triathlon training. I really have to come to grips with it because right now the triathlon training takes precedence. I do, however, want to strength train... most triathletes try to include that in their training.

I may just stick with the resistance workouts of P90X. I did not want to trash plyo or ixp, but if I have to I will. My triathon training calls for 3 runs, 2 swims, 2 bikes per week. I definitely don't want to overtrain!

Man, what did I get myself into!

  6. I hear ya Boomer. Especially since you have your Tri coming up in June. You don't want to lose the muscle and definition that you worked for in P90X but you need to basically double up on the cardio work .... only some many hours in the day!! My theory is that when I finish this round of P90X I am going to ditch the cardio DVD's and focus on core and strength training: Core Syn, Abs/Core Plus, Back & Bicpes, C/S/T, ARX, and Total Body Plus ... anything that is legs and cardio will be replaced by biking, swimming and running. Then when I am done with the tri I will start another round of the X. That's my story and I am sticking to it!

  7. Yeah, I think I may have to ditch the legs workout or do a minimum leg workout in the gym. This week I worked all three sports and I can tell that a P90X leg day will destroy me. It is a good thing that this is a recovery week for me.
